Anneke Van Giersbergen is a singer/songwriter from the Netherlands who is best known as the former lead singer of the progressive rock band The Gathering. From 1995-2007, Van Giersbergen helped The Gathering evolve its sound to a more alternative/progressive rock style that brought international success. She left the band to focus on her solo career and to pursue other musical project, most notably Agua de Annique, a project that included her husband and drummer Rob Snijders. Van Giersbergen's solo debut, Air released in 2007, was a pop/rock album that showcased her talent on the piano. In addition to consistently releasing solo material, including the two 2009 Agua de Annique efforts Pure Air and In Your Room, Van Giersbergen has made several guest vocalist appearances on studio albums, demonstrating her versatility in genre and innate ability to experiment with other musicians.
