In Galicia, the traditional Carnival festival is called entroido and is held between February and mid-March. Celebrations culminate with the Carnival parade, in which locals dress up and compete for the most unique or spectacular costume. Costume balls are held in discotheques and pubs, and parties and concerts spill out into the streets in the days leading to Ash Wednesday. Filloa, a sort of sweet crepe and a real treat, is eaten almost exclusively at this time of year. The parade is held on different days each year; please visit Santiago de Compostela's website for a complete schedule of activities.
