Kenny Garrett is a jazz saxophonist who rose to recognition during his teenage years as a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra. He joined the renowned ensemble in 1978, and went on to play with groups like the Mel Lewis Orchestra before releasing his debut album as bandleader, Introducing Kenny Garrett, in 1984. The album earned him a contract with major labels like Atlantic and Warner Bros. Records, whom he has continued to build his extensive discography with. In addition to his solo work, he has also earned a reputation as an ardent sideman for artists such as Art Blakey and Miles Davis.
