Now widely seen as a modern rock laureate, the New Jersey-born artist Bruce Springsteen got his start in the music business in 1969 but is best known for his work in the late 1970s and 1980s. While developing his style in the early 1970s, Springsteen sang about the Jersey Shore and the boardwalk lifestyle, often filling his music with poetic lyrics and American sentiments. But as he matured, Springsteen started shifting his focus to larger issues that dealt with social and political themes. Springsteen's most renowned albums,1975's Born to Run and 1984's Born in the U.S.A., as well as his ability to turn songs into rousing anthems about life's struggles have earned him a dedicated fan base and an undisputed place in rock history.
