Big Country is an alternative rock band from Fife, Scotland that reached the height of its popularity in the mid 1980s but has since achieved a large cult following that continues to this day. Although the band is a rock band at its core, the members of Big Country infuse the folk sounds of their native Scotland while engineering a special technique for their guitars that mimic the inspirational sounds of bagpipes and other traditional Scottish instruments. The band's biggest hit came in the form of its second studio album Steeltown, which would immediately place Big Country at #1 on the UK Album Charts in 1984. Although the band's popularity tapered off significantly in the 1990s, Big Country still remains one of the United Kingdom's more legendary acts of the 1980s, with a cult following that still keeps the band on the move even to this day.
