Kim Althea Gordon, professionally known as Kim Gordon, is an American singer-songwriter especially recognized for her work as the frontwoman of the alternative band Sonic Youth. Raised in Los Angeles, Gordon moved to New York City to pursue a career in art, after graduating from Otis College of Art and Design. It was there that she met Thurston Moore, with whom she went on to form Sonic Youth in 1981. The band released six albums before the end of the decade via various different labels. 1990's Goo became the first of its nine releases with DGC Records. In 1993, Gordon teamed up with guitarist Julia Cafritz to form the supergroup Free Kitten. After the disbanding of Sonic Youth in 2011, she formed Body/Head with Bill Nace. The experimental duo dropped its debut album Coming Apart in 2013. She also became a part of Alex Knost's act Glitterburst. Her first solo single "Murdered Out" was released in 2016. No Home Record, her debut solo album, was released in 2019 and featured tracks like "Hungry Baby" and "Paprika Pony."
