For decades, residents, former residents, and visitors of Japantown have met each summer for this two-day festival. It celebrates the history and significance of the Japanese community, which has remained active in this part of the city since the 1900s. Held on the first weekend in August, thousands gather at Oppenheimer Park and the Britannia Centre to celebrate Japanese and Chinese Canadian heritage. There are food booths, crafts, martial art displays, taiko music and kite-flying demonstrations. Admission is free. See website for yearly particulars.
