Inspired by a historic seafaring village, the Penobscot Marine Museum commemorates the shipbuilding history of Maine. Scattered across Church Street, this isn't just one museum but a collection of eight. Different kinds of boats, canoes, and peapods are on display at one museum, while the other is stocked with souvenirs that the voyagers got back to Maine from their travels to far east countries. Models of ships and interactive videos narrating the lives of captains, in addition to handicrafts fashioned by sailors are other items that bring the museum to life.
