There has always been a lot of controversy surrounding the largest pecan for the past few decades. It all began in 1962, when a dentist built the largest pecan, a 1000 pound (453 kilogram), 5 feet (1.5 meters) long pecan in honor of Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, a Spanish explorer in Seguin. But this feat was short-lived and in 1982, some pecan farmers in Brunswick, Missouri, built a 12,000 pound (5443 kilogram), 12 feet (3.6 meters) long replica of their patented Starking Hardy Giant pecan and made a good claim for building the largest pecan. So the locals of Seguin set out to win back their glory and decided to create a larger pecan. In 2011, Seguin unveiled its new pecan that stands at 16 feet (4.8 meters) long and 8 feet (2.4 meters) wide and sits in all its glory by the Texas Agricultural and Heritage Center. Finally this is the third and the largest pecan and proves everything in world is the largest in Texas.
