Located on the grounds of the Royal Palace, the Queen Art Stable is one of the country's leading art museums. It is housed within an exquisite Neoclassic building that was constructed in 1849. The structure was originally built as a stable that could accommodate 38 royal horses and was later expanded and transformed into a comprehensive equestrian center on the request of the king's wife Queen Maud. Today, the museum preserves some of the royal family's most prized equestrian-themed possessions.
