Nestled in the Cuyamaca mountains, Julian shot to fame as a Gold Rush town after the precious metal was discovered in 1870. Even though the 'golden' era lasted only till the end of the century, Julian soon flourished into a lovely town that came to be known as a mountain retreat for daytripper's and outdoor enthusiasts. Its apple-growing history still lives on, and can be experienced through its famously delicious apple pie and the Julian Apple Days Festival. Its quaint, picturesque streets carry remnants of the yesteryear in the form of historic buildings, some of which are now transformed into aesthetic inns and local restaurants. A sweet, rustic American town with an old-time charm, a visit to Julian is sure to be a memorable one.
