Redgrave Theatre, opened in 1966 by Sir Michael Redgrave, belongs to Clifton College, the gorgeous private school just down the road, and hosts various plays throughout the year. It tends to showcase new writers and amateur theater groups and is a good bet for innovative and specialized drama with a raw edge. Recent performances by various groups include The Legend of Robin Hood, Hooray for Hollywood!, Educating Rita, The Pirates of Penzance and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The theater itself is small but attractive and has excellent acoustic qualities. There is a small bar in the lobby, and the auditorium has both wheelchair access and an induction loop for the hard of hearing.
