Thanks to a plethora of art galleries and museums located in this city, art enthusiasts and collectors throng the city during festivals. Every year on the first Sunday of August, everyone's attention turns to the port city of Gijon. The reason for this is the Asturias Day celebrations. Gijon is popular for its festivals and carnivals, but this event is perhaps the most important one on its calendar: decorated floats, processions and people dancing to traditional music are all part of the festivities.
