After being uprooted from its Stoke Newington home to its new location in Dalston's vibrant Gillett Square, the Vortex Jazz Club is flourishing, perhaps because Dalston of today has echoes of Stoke Newington of yesteryear. Putting on an impressive seven evening performances a week with performers such as Tony Kofi, Sir John Dankworth, Dame Cleo Laine, and award-winning saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, the Vortex is fun, fresh, and funky. The genres of music, whether it is cutting-edge jazz, contemporary folk, or world music, have a focus on sheer entertainment, and they sure nail it.
