Las Vegas is one of the world's most famous gambling destinations, an unrestrained oasis of excess in the Mojave Desert that mystifies visitors with its glut of neon lights and massive hotels. While the city's origins are still a bit hazy, it was the Hoover Dam that resulted in this hedonistic playground. During the dam's construction, the construction workers needed a few venues for the much-needed rest and relaxation. From this humble origin, Las Vegas grew substantially and now sees billions of dollars pouring in and out of the city limits every year. New hotels continually outdo one another with attractions like roller coasters, light fountain shows and the Fremont Street Experience. The dazzle of The Strip refuses to dim, and the thrill of a dice rolling in Vegas' resplendent casinos still induces an adrenaline high.
