HI, United States
Honolulu is the culture-rich, cosmopolitan capital of Hawaii, set on the southwestern shores of Oahu island. Scratch just beneath the surface and this surfing destination unveils a vibrant culture, world-class dining and a host of shopping avenues to explore. Honolulu is home to not only some of the state's largest history and art museums, but also historic sites like the Iolani Palace, the United States' only royal residence and the world's largest open-air mall at Ala Moana. Honolulu's Chinatown is a veritable smorgasbord of pan-Asian cuisine, edgy nightlife and quirky boutiques, while Kapahulu is the place to experience local specialties. Alan Wong’s, Roy’s Waikiki and Chef Mavro are some of the stalwarts of regional dining, although you'll find street stalls selling poke across town. Waikiki Beach is among the most recognizable of Honolulu's attractions, this stunning stretch of sand is a glorious choice for water sports of every stripe, but particularly surfing, which is a local activity and an indelible part of the culture. The best views to be had are from the summit of Leahi and the top of the Aloha Tower. From the Duke Kahanamoku Statue to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu is an island with a riveting history.
