A sunny town located on the western shores of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee was an ethnically diverse city populated by German and Polish immigrants, long before its Midwestern American identity emerged. As Wisconsin's largest city, Milwaukee harbors a rich regional heritage, a long prized musical trove that unfolds at the banks of the Great Lake every summer, a locally-driven epicurean scene, and a mesmerizing maze of lovingly restored historic districts. The city's serene skyline, largely influenced by German and Polish architecture, unfolds along the picturesque stretch of the Milwaukee Riverwalk, a pedestrian pathway built along the eponymous river. Milwaukee's legendary buildings also herald to its brewing past, once dominated by some of the world's largest breweries - Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst and Miller. Of these, only the Miller Brewing Company is extant, the longstanding bearer of the city's beer-brewing pride. Unique landmarks like the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Harley Davidson Museum bring out its latent cutting-edge nature that is hidden beneath its Midwestern roots.
