Founded in 1856 as The Village of Lancaster, Lincoln got its current name in the year 1969. It was also during this year that Lincoln was incorporated as a city. Named after former US President Abraham Lincoln, this city is the capital of the state of Nebraska. With a population of more than 2,80,000, Lincoln is one of the most populous cities in the state.
