Schloss Borbeck is the former residence of Essener Fürstäbtissinnen - an important Roman site. Originally built in the 14th Century in the baroque style of architecture, the castle underwent major renovations during the 18th Century. Apart from serving as the Borbecker registry office, the castle plays host to cultural and community events since 1983. Its premises are also used by community college and Folkwang School of Music. The basement restaurant and the permanent exhibition of Schloss Borbeck and Fürstäbtissinnen are the other attractions of the castle.
