A former mill town, Oxford, Maine, was established as a town in 1829, though the first settlers arrived around 1794. The town’s prosperity as a mill town can be seen today in the several preserved mills scattered all over Oxford. Of course, the mills and their architectural charm is just some of the things this town has to offer visitors. Oxford is also blessed with the presence of lakes and rivers, considering about 7 percent of its total area is water. The most important of the water bodies are the Thompson Lake and the Little Androscoggin River. Among the town’s sights, the Congregational Church has earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places. See the website to know more about Oxford.
