Burg Bentheim is a sightly medieval castle perched on a hill situated in the historical Teutoburger forest. It was constructed circa 11th Century from Bentheim sandstone, and in bygone times, was the residence of aristocrats and princes of Bentheim. It is owned by Prince Carl Ferdinand of Bentheim and Steinfurt. The castle provides sweeping panoramic views of the neighborhood, and at present, houses a family museum. The major attractions here are Herrgott of Bentheim - a Romanesque cross made from stone - and the Alchemist's Laboratory. The lush green castle grounds is an ideal destination for a picnic and your four legged friends are also welcome here.
