Friedensplatz which is also known as the Peace Square is a square located in the center of the city. The Dortmund Town Hall is located on its premises. After the Second World War, the sculptor Susanne Wehland constructed a peace column in tribute to the victims of the Hiroshima bombings. A number of cultural events are hosted at this venue where a large crowd usually gathers. It has had special screenings for the football matches of the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup.
