Washington celebrates Black History Month every February with numerous events and cultural programs, as well as appropriate exhibits at the various Smithsonian museums. The goal is to honor the many contributions of African-American talent and leadership throughout American history. Of particular interest are the African-American Civil War Memorial and black-history-month-february-2020-in-dc the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site; February 14 marks the anniversary of Douglass' birth in 1820.
