After serving as a hired gun as a touring guitarist with Sufjan Stevens and the Polyphonic Spree, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Annie Clarke assembled her own supporting cast under the moniker St. Vincent in 2006. She released her first album, Marry Me, in 2007 and delivered an indie pop/art rock sound with intricate arrangements and a healthy dose of her instrument of choice, the electric guitar. St. Vincent's follow up record, Actor, demonstrated a darker approach, with more complex emotions than her debut, offering beautiful juxtaposition between violent, chaotic rhythms and the natural delicacy of her voice.
