Frankie Avalon is an actor, playwright and singer/songwriter from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who is perhaps best remembered as one of the first teen-idols in contemporary American popular culture, ever since starring side-by-side with Annette Funicello in various popular "beach comedy" movies of the 1960s, like Bikini Beach and Beach Blanket Bingo. Since his heyday during the 1960s, Avalon has managed to maintain a substantial level of success through the years by taking on various film and television roles, as well as lending his talents to stage productions, such as a revival of the world-famous musical Grease.
