YG is a rapper from Compton who made a name for himself with his 2009 debut single "Toot It and Boot It." Despite the early fame, he took his time building an audience on the show circuit before signing to Def Jam Records and releasing his debut album My Krazy Life, in 2014. With artists like Drake and Jeezy featured on the first two singles, the record immediate caught the attention of mainstream audiences who identify with West Coast hip hop. In 2014, YG released a short, autobiographical film about growing up in Compton, complete with a soundtrack that was issued not only on Def Jam, but on his own Pu$haz Ink imprint and Jeezy's CTE World label. The grit and storytelling behind the record put him on the map as one of the most poignant and straightforward rappers of his generation. YG released his sophomore effort, Still Brazy, in 2016.
