Joe Markendale (aka G-Nome) and Alex Story (aka Fromem Ory) are the two DJs who comprise the UK psytrace project Sonic Species. The two partnered up in 2006, after both had spent years honing their skills as solo artists. Based out of Brighton, Markendale and Story take advantage of both digital and organic instrumentation, creating driving trance music that frequently spirals into trippy breakdowns and dark, somewhat jarring passages. Sonic Species began putting out singles in 2008 on Alchemy Records, and released its debut LP in 2011.
