Virtuoso guitar player Jon Gomm is an experimental musician who builds complete soundscapes with nothing more than an acoustic guitar. Utilizing every aspect of his instrument of choice, he simultaneously plays drum beats, bass lines and melodies to create a sound unrivaled by any other singer/songwriter. With a mix of influences that range from blues to rock and jazz to classical, Gomm began performing solo shows in Leeds, where he perfected his guitar-drumming, learned how to tune his strings to mimic a bass and began using high harmonics on his guitar to create a synthesizer effect. In 2003 he released his debut album, Hypertension, for which he recorded each track in a single take with no overdubs or production. As a supporter of independent music, he refuses to follow popular music industry practices and avoids chain venues and festivals in favor of independent promoters and performances in pubs and theaters.
