Pioneers of the alt-country movement of the 90s, Old 97's is a band that was formed in Dallas, Texas by front man Rhett Miller in 1993. After touring the country in support of its debut album, the band was signed by Elektra Records, who hoped the band could start a new musical fad to follow the death of grunge. While the foursome did gain a respectable amount of success is and frequently cited by many modern musicians as a prominent influence, the band didn't gain the level of success Elektra had expected and the group was subsequently dropped from the label by the end of the 90s. The band has since gained a resurgence of fans and has been featured in multiple television shows, films and even video games.
