Lawrence Brownlee is an operatic tenor from Youngstown, Ohio who specializes in singing in the Italian bel canto style. Though growing up without much exposure to classical music, Brownlee was nevertheless reared in an extremely musical household--learning how to play the trumpet, guitar and drums in addition to singing in a Gospel choir.After receiving his graduate degree from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, Brownlee made his professional stage debut in 2002 as Almavia in Rossini's The Barber of Seville at the Virginia Opera.
