The Tampa Bay Rays are a Major League Baseball team and a member of the American League East Division. They joined the league as an expansion team in 1998. The team was originally the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, but “Devil” was taken out as part of a name change in 2007. After beginning with 10 straight losing seasons, the Rays won the 2008 American League pennant and advanced to the World Series. The most famous player to wear a Rays uniform could very well be Jim Morris, a relief pitcher who threw only 21 innings with the club. However, he gained a lot of notoriety as the subject of the baseball movie The Rookie.
