The more-the-merrier Canadian indie rock collective known as Broken Social Scene has helped develop the solo careers of several of its members since its inception in the late 90s. Leslie Feist, Kevin Drew and Emily Haines (among others) have all had a chance to strut their stuff outside of BSS--and now Jason Collett has joined the solo party with a decidedly alt-country kick. Far removed in spirit, but not necessarily in execution from the BSS style, Collett's albums are inspired by American music traditions, such as country, Americana and singer/songwriter folk. The influence of Bob Dylan in particular comes though in his songs, but Collett's guitar playing and songwriting won't sound completely foreign to fans who came for the BSS connection.
