Iowa-based music collective, Diplomats of Solid Sound is part of the recent soul and funk revivalist movement that has propelled artists such as Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and the Budos Band to mainstream success. The band is comprised of seven musicians with instrumentation consisting of live drums, guitars, bass, horns and the popular Hammond B-3 organ. Its sound pulls heavily from the soulful Memphis sound of Stax Records in the 60s and 70s, as well as from modern retro-minded garage rock acts, such as the Dirtbombs and the Detroit Cobras. Diplomats of Solid Sound formed in 1998, and has since represented its original material in the form of five albums and a countless number of live performances.
