When Hurricane Rita broadsided the Gulf of Mexico in 2005, causing $11.3 billion worth of damage and displacing thousands of individuals, the Dallas-based Americana rock act, Leatherbag, decided to pack its bags and relocate to Austin, Texas. The change of scenery worked to the advantage of the burgeoning group and Austin's shapely music scene helped mold Leatherbag's developing sound. The band has managed to become a noted fixture of the Texas music scene, and though its style is slightly run-of-the-mill, many of the group's songs are clearly reflective of the current music scene that exists in the Lone Star State.
