Japanese collective Vampillia calls itself a "brutal orchestra," apparently meaning it creates short, dramatic tracks that assault the listener with distortion-heavy orchestral arrangements. While the group sometimes softens its approach by including the delicate falsetto of guest vocalist Tujiko Noriko, and sometimes uses a more forceful approach by including aggressive metal-esque growling, it always strays from what's expected. Just a year after forming in 2008, New York producer Rusty Santos - most notable for producing Animal Collective - contacted the band and offered to produce its debut album, with a full US and European release. The band then toured Australia and the US East Coast, easily selling out large venues.
