The Damned is an English band that was formed in 1967 by Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Brian James, and Rat Scabies. The band is highly influenced by punk greats like the Ramones, MC5 and Sex Pistols, the band creates punk rock music that flirts with psychedelic, art, garage and gothic rock. After releasing its first studio album Damned Damned Damned, a record widely regarded as the first British punk album, in 1977, The Damned became the first British punk band to tour the US, beating more renowned Brit punk acts such as The Sex Pistols and The Clash to the punch. Through nine albums over the course of three decades, the band has taken several different lineups and seen a evolution in its sound from straight punk rock to gothic rock, but The Damned will always be remembered as one of the pioneers of punk rock by true punk fans.
