One of the biggest festivals of the year, les Bravades is a time to honor the rich history of the St. Tropez region. Because of Tropez's military history, much of the festival revolves around a chosen Town Captain and the "Corps de Bravade", about 200 men often shooting off guns as tradition dictates. Although the first two days are focused on military matters (as well as a church mass), the third day is when the party begins. A picnic on the grounds of the Sainte-Anne Chapel kicks off the beginning of a dance through the streets set to provençal music.
