Originally founded in 1971 as the Lynchburg Baptist College, this private college gained university status in 1984 and was christened Liberty University. Under its academic umbrella, the University offers as many as 522 programs in all, of which 138 are graduate programs and three are doctoral programs. Besides academia, the Liberty University is well-known for their teams' participation in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The celebrated campus accommodates several apartment-style dormitories, libraries, the Zaki Gordon Cinematic Arts Center, College of Osteopathic Medicine, a Civil War museum and the historic Carter Glass Mansion. Liberty University is counted among the top-ranked universities in the United States, as per the Forbes' List of America's Top Colleges.
