Lynchburg was first settled in 1757 when ferry owner John Lynch crossed the James River, thus also giving the town its name. The downtown, with its riverfront locales, offers a variety of touristy experiences. Take a stroll through the town to take in its quaint atmosphere, explore history at landmarks such as the Anne Spencer House, Lynchburg Museum, and the nearby Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest. Take your kids on a fun day out at Amazement Square, or embark on a little family adventure at Percival's Island Natural Area.
