Richie Hawtin is an English techno producer and DJ who was an influential member of Detroit's second wave of techno artists that flourished in the late 1990s. Born in the UK, Hawtin moved to Windsor, Canada, just across the river from Detroit. This was where his father held a job as a robotics technician at General Motors. Introduced to early electronic music like Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream by his father, Hawtin began to delve into the expansive beat-driven music scene in Detroit, playing DJ sets at the young age of seventeen. Hawtin released his debut album in 1993 and, though his sound has evolved into a more distinct ambient style, he has continued to release a steady slew of listening material, in addition to playing enrapturing live sets as well.
