Liars is an art rock band from New York City that was founded in 2000. The band's debut album, They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top, was released in 2001, offered an angular punk sound injected with synthesizers and drum machine beats for a sound that was critically acclaimed as dissonant funk-inspired punk. From 2006's Drum's Not Dead, to 2010's Sisterworld, Liars has come to be known for evolving its sound between albums, somehow managing to reconstruct a fresh style by borrowing elements of experimental rock and avant-pop.
