Formed in 1997 in Liverpool, Clinic sought to disassociate itself from its native town's other celebrated band. In an attempt to do this, the group developed a distinct image that involved using primarily flea market keyboards and organs, as well as donning surgical masks during performances and press photos. The band's unique sound and image was noticed by prominent indie label Domino records, who signed Clinic in 1999 and has released the band's albums ever since. Though the group is more prominent in the UK, it still has a solid fan base in the US and tours in both countries frequently.
