Mitsuko Uchida is a Japanese concert pianist (now a naturalized British citizen) who is widely considered to be one of the greatest classical pianists of her generation, and was appointed Honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2001. The last and favorite pupil of the great pianist and Beethoven interpreter Artur Schnabel, Uchida became almost immediately known for her tremendously original and skilled interpretations of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and modern composers such as Claude Debussy and Arnold Schoenberg. Having earned several awards over the course of her illustrious career, including a Grammy for her performances of Mozart's Piano Concertos with the Cleveland Orchestra in 2011, Mitsuko Uchida has successfully brought her talent and leadership as a world-class musician into the 21st Century.
