Killswitch Engage is a metalcore band from Westfield, MA that was formed by ex-members of metal bands Overcast and Aftershock in 1999. The band released its self-titled debut in 2000 and experienced its first taste of success with its third effort, The End of Heartache in 2004, which featured a Grammy-nominated title track. Considered one of the founders of metalcore, Killswitch Engage combines melodic death metal with hardcore but is known for its positive lyrical content, often centered on themes of love and unity. The band released its fifth studio album, another self-titled record, in 2009.
