Marc Anthony Thompson began releasing music in the 1980s, after leaving Italy--where he was born and raised--for New York. Thompson escaped the music industry for a few years, but returned in 1998 under the moniker Chocolate Genius, Inc., a project that allowed him to remain the primary singer/songwriter, but also included various collaborations with prominent musicians such as Marc Ribot and Van Dyke Parks. Likened to Tom Waits and Gil Scott-Heron, Thompson produces soulful ballads that seamlessly incorporate elements of R&B and folk, all crooned in Thompson's raspy voice. Consistently lauded with acclaim, Thompson is a highly-respected figure amongst other musicians and critics alike.
