EMA is the stage name of experimental indie folk singer/songwriter Erika M. Anderson, whose career in music began as a member of the famed LA-based noise rock band Gowns--a band particularly known for its electrifying live shows--in 2004. Since leaving the Gowns to branch out on her own, EMA has chosen a decidedly more cerebral course for her music, focusing on song construction with a focus that nearly borders on obsession. Always aware of the detestable possibility of becoming filed away under one of the myriad micro-genres that make up the independent music spectrum, EMA tries to create music that touches on as many contrasting genres as possible, ensuring not only her continued interest as a songwriter, but that of her audiences as well.
