Originally formed in 1995, The Make-Up is a post punk band from Washington, D.C. composed of Ian Svenonius on vocals, James Canty on guitar, Steve Gamboa on drums and Michelle Mae on bass. With a sound that incorporates elements of garage rock, soul, punk rock and prominent Marxist and socialist political leanings, the band released its debut studio album Sound Verite, in 1997. Despite releasing an album a year for the next two years, the band disbanded in 2000 and its members went on to form other projects including Weird War, Chain & the Gan and Ted Leo & The Pharmacists. The Make-Up reformed in 2012 to play at All Tomorrow's Parties I'll Be Your Mirror series.
