Arcadi Volodos is a Russian virtuoso pianist who rose to prominence with the release of his first recording in 1997, Piano Transcriptions - an album of transcriptions for piano of works written for other instrumental mediums. Perhaps the most popular transcriptions made by Volodos are the works of the great Russian pianist Vladimir Horowitz, whose own notoriously difficult piano transcriptions were never written down and had previously only existed as recordings. As a result of this tremendous undertaking in transcribing some of the world's most difficult works for piano, many pianists and critics consider him to be a modern-day Vladimir Horowitz. Volodos' worldwide debut at Carnegie Hall in 1998, similarly to Horowitz's own American debut there exactly 70 years prior, is considered one of the greatest piano performances in the history of the venue.
