Ganesh Chaturthi is one of India's most spectacular and popular festival. It celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, an elephant headed god of the Hindus. This ten-day festival is celebrated from the 4th day after the new moon day of the Hindu month of Bhadrapad (August-September). The festival is observed with great fanfare in the country. Ganesha is the god of wisdom and power. His name is uttered before the commencement of any important activity. In this festival, a large number of idols of Ganesha, in clay and in all possible sizes, are made and bought by people. The idol is kept in the house for a few days and is then taken out ceremoniously and immersed in the ocean.
